Buckinghamshire schools join carbon reduction scheme

A number of schools from Buckinghamshire have registered to join a pilot scheme that aims to reduce carbon emissions and help cut down on energy costs in their schools. The Carbon Trust is running the pilot scheme in partnership with the County Council of Buckinghamshire.

Buckinghamshire County Council is among 43 other councils that are participating in the Collaborative Low Carbon Schools Service project. It is estimated that all the schools in Buckinghamshire County account for about 68% of the energy consumed by the council.

In the pilot scheme, the Carbon Trust will work with the council to support the schools in several ways including helping them to understand how to cut down on energy consumption through initiatives like ‘switch off campaigns. There will also be a series of workshops for finance and catering staff across schools in Buckinghamshire where they will be trained on useful energy conservation skills.

Buckinghamshire cabinet member for environment, Steven Adams, said the schools involved will get a great opportunity to make a difference through reduction of carbon emissions, and save money in the process.
