A new plan has been unveiled for the Holy Cross Convent site in Chalfont St Peter. The new plan which comes as an alternative to the largely unpopular old plan seeks to provide among others a completely new site for Chalfont St Peter Academy, a new site for a supermarket to help promote business and commerce; and another new site for building new homes in Chalfont St Peter.
The site has elicited several controversies since the Covenant School in Chalfont St Peter was closed back in 2006. Last year, the Convent got permission from CDC (Chiltern District Council) to proceed with construction of dwellings that would comprise 88 houses, 110 apartments and a care home with 74 bedroom capacity. However this met opposition from the Chalfont St Peter parish council who went ahead to launch a judicial review to halt the plans.
The developers responsible for the new plan said their objective is to build the site in a way that will guarantee a stronger future for Chalfont St Peter through better facilities that are easily accessible to all whether by foot or car. |
